Making bread

Baking is one of my favorite things to do. Eating the baked goodies would be a close second. :) I love the smell of homemade bread baking in the oven.  They need to bottle that smell and make a candle out of it. For the past few weeks I have been making bread usually once or twice a week. I make two loaves at a time. I make one loaf into sliced bread and freeze it. The other loaf I leave out and we enjoy it. My favorite recipe to use for my white bread is in my Better Homes and Garden cookbook that I got as a wedding present 10 years ago. :)

When I make dinner rolls or cinnamon rolls I use a different recipe.  I got this one from a pastors wife in Missouri. I love it! Here is a link to the refrigerator roll recipe.  http://smells-yummy.blogspot.com/2011/08/refrigerator-rolls-recipe-takes-some.html

Out with my girls.

Monday my girls and I went to town to get groceries and just to spend some time with them. Sometimes even though we live under the same roof, it feels like we hardly spend good quality time together.  So we trekked to town and had a great time.

We went to a cafe in town that sells fountain Pepsi's. I might add it is the only place in town that sells them.  :)  We shared a huge burger and fries. We laughed and giggled. I loved the little extra time I had with them.

Don't take your children for granted. You are not promised another day to enjoy their smiles, hugs, kisses, and all the other wonderful little things.  Even in the short time Marty and I have been parents the time has flown by! Our "baby" will be 6 this year! I love and cherish my kids, and want them to feel loved and cherished as well. :)

Waiting on our food. So we doodled on the napkins.

Here in Greenland you are going to pay a whole lot for a haircut.  Womans haircuts go for about $100!!  So we do our own haircuts. Thankfully my Mom used to be a beautician, and showed me the basics of cutting hair. I have been cutting Marty's hair for over 10 years. Thankfully he isn't picky about his hair.  :D

Maryanna and her new do!

Yesterday we gave our girls a desperately needed haircut. We cut about 4 inches off each of the girls hair! It was a lot! I told Marty it looked like we could make a good size wig out of what we cut off. I am thankful we don't have to pay for haircuts. I am looking forward when we go on furlough to get me a good haircut! Marty has offered, and at times has trimmed my hair. But only when I really need a trim. :)

Our golden calf?!

I wanted to share with you guys what we payed for ground beef today. Sometimes I think beef here could be used as a form of currency. :)  I am by no means complaining, I just thought I would give you a glimpse into a little bit of our grocery shopping. I am very thankful for what The Lord provides. :)

This pack of hamburger meat was on sale. See that orange sticker on the package, that means it's on sale. It weighs 0.78 Kilos (1.72 pounds) . The price...40 Kroner ($7.12)   I bought three packs and came home and divided the packs into 6 little freezer bags. We will get 6 meals out of those three packs. :)

Snowy day fun!

Sometimes it gets too cold and snowy to go outside to play. Today we made "under the table hammocks" to chase away the boredom bug. I found the idea on Pinterest. The kids have been playing in them most of the afternoon laughing and just having a blast!

My Valentine.

13 years ago Marty became my first Valentine. We met at church in Mississippi. Marty and his sisters were bus kids. Marty was a little rough on the outside, but had a heart of gold on the inside. :) When he finally noticed I existed, the rest is history. :)

We dated for almost three years, then on December 21, 2002 we were married. We were really young, I was 18 he was 19 when we got married. We look back and see how The Lord protected us through some of our ignorance.

I would have never imagined when I first met Marty we would have three wonderful children, and be living in Greenland!

I love my life with Marty and hope we have many more wonderful Valentine Days together.

All suited up...

Going outside to play in the wintertime here in Greenland can take a while to get the kids all ready to go.  Sometimes you just need to get out of the house. Today was that kind of day. We got lots of fresh snow yesterday, and it was calling the kids names. :) One thing we have learned from being here in Greenland, is to layer, layer, layer!!  The kids usually wear two pairs of gloves (knit gloves and mittens), sweaters and a jackets, hats, scarves, and snow bottoms. We try to cover as much skin as we can!  Frostbite and windburn can happen fast!
Even with all the layers the kids only stay out for short periods at a time.

All layered up and ready to go. Eli is already outside. :)

All done with Kindergarten!

Guess who is all done with Kindergarten!! Eryn finished up school this morning.   If you can't tell, she is a little on the excited side! She closed her book, looked at me, smiled, then said, "Well, that was easy."  :)

Out and about

Today the weather was beautiful. We had a nice breeze and a little sunshine. We took advantage of it and went to town as a family. That doesn't happen that often because the kids and I are busy during the week the school, and Marty goes to his office to study. So the weekends are our favorite time of the week.  :)

We walked down to the ocean today. It was gorgeous! The kids all had fun and come back home in such great moods. It's amazing what a little sunshine can do!
