Doing the happy dance!

I literally did the happy dance today! We are done with school, finally!

Eryn already has her books for next year, so I plan on starting with her  August 5th. And start the other two whenever their books get here. I am looking forward to a little break.

This year has been fun, but long. :)

Maryanna finished up this year with all A's. And she's now a mean green reading machine. :)  Elijah finished up with one B and the rest are A's. He has learned a lot and has been a great student. Eryn has been my little sponge this year. She has learned so much just by listening to the other two. I love teaching my kids. It is challenging at times, but I love it!

Summer fun!

My favorite days of the weeks are Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I know that's true for a lot of people.  :)  Friday's are our family movie/game nights.  Saturday's we usually go to town and just look around as a family. Then of course we have church on Sunday's.

Today we walked to the glacier for a little picnic. But the mosquitoes were so bad, we didn't stay long at all! We were being swarmed by bugs, not fun.  :)

It has been a beautiful sunny day today. Our temperatures have been close to 50 today. I know to some that might not seem warm, but to us it was hot!

When we got home from our walk Marty reminded me that we had water guns up in the attic. So up I went. :)Marty filled up a tub of water and sent the kids outside for some water fun. As you can guess water fun doesn't happen that often here.

Here are a few pictures of our fun day. :)

Something to think about

Sometimes it's easy to complain about doing housework, at least for me. :)
I came across this little cartoon on Facebook today, and boy, it got me! I should be thankful that we have a nice roof over our heads, food on our table, clothes to wear, and healthy happy children. I should even be thankful for the laundry piles, the dishes, and the floors that need mopped. :)

At times it's easy for me to lose focus on the important things and get caught up complaining about the things I have or don't have. So, as you go about your day today don't forget to be thankful!

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Bread Bowls

The other day I made some potato soup. After we were done Marty had mentioned to me that some bread bowls would be good with the soup. My first thought was that bread bowls were going to be too hard to make. But, feeling a little adventurous, I got on line and found a really simple recipe for the bowls.

This morning I told our kids that tonight they would get to eat their bowls. They looked at me like I was crazy. I had them guessing all day. It made for a fun~yummy dinner. :)

Here is a link to the recipe. I thought I would send you on over to check the recipe out for yourself. They have some other great recipes on their site that I have used and love!

And if you are looking for a nice creamy potato soup, here is a link to the soup my family loves!

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July! Greenland doesn't celebrate the 4th, but we still do! :)  Today we will just take it easy here at home. Marty is still trying to get over the hike they got back from on Tuesday. So we are going to do a small cookout here and watch some movies. :)

I am proud to be an American. Even though I am not always proud at what my country does. I wouldn't want to be a citizen anywhere else! I pray for America and our leaders. We may not agree with all the choices our Nation makes, but we are told in the Bible to pray for those in authority.

1 Timothy 2:1-4

I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

Happy 4th from the Arnold family!

The hike and the homefront...

Marty and Eli made it back around 7:30 last night from their hike. It was a 26 mile round trip. They left early Monday morning, camped out, and returned Tuesday evening.

It was an interesting two days without my guys. We started out Monday morning by Eryn hitting her head really hard on the road. She is now sporting a huge bruise and a knot right in the middle of her forehead. We had a girls night and that was a lot of fun.  Marty called before he went to sleep to say that they were tired and sore but doing good.

Tuesday morning I had a message on Facebook from my Sister-in-law saying that my Mother-in-law is in the hospital with some serious heath issues. I tried to call Marty to tell him, but his phone had died in the night. So, I had no way to get him the message.

I asked Carole if she had heard from the others and they all had left from the village at 8:30. So I was to expect them home for dinner. I made Marty's favorite meal and it was waiting on him. Carole messaged me to tell me that her guys had made it back around 3:30. But, Marty and Eli were about 2-3 hours behind them. Well, when 3 hours had passed and they still weren't back, I started to worry. I couldn't call him, because his phone was dead.

At a little after 7 Carole had messaged saying that Chris could go out and look for them if they weren't back soon. As I was talking with her about sending out the cavalry, Marty and Eli pulled up!! The girls ran out to met them, and gave them both big hugs! We missed them, and are very thankful they made it back in one piece. :) They are blistered, sore and bug bit, but they are home. :)

It was an adventure for all of us, even thought the girls and I stayed home. We had our share of excitement. :)

Here are some pictures that they took while they walked. Some of them Eli took, some of them Marty took.

And their off!

It was chilly and cloudy Monday

I love this picture!

Summer house

I named this one the bubble gum house.

Lots of ice bergs

This is the village that they hiked to. It has a whopping population of 50 people.

The store. It was really small

They got there as they were cutting up a whale!

Marty was told that this whale weighed between 35-38 tons!!

Who can resist such cute faces. :)

Marty and Eli's tent

Marty's whale dinner. No, it wasn't from the whale they were cutting up.

Eli is super excited about eating his whale. MAMMAQ! (yummy)

Do you see the musk ox head, and his fur?

Taking a hike.

Marty, Eli, Chris, Christopher and another young man left early this morning on a 13 mile hike to another village, Oqaatsut, which is north of here. They will be hiking most of the day today, and will camp out and be back sometime tomorrow.

Eli was really excited about the hike. :) They took the camera, so hopefully sometime latter this week I will have lots of pictures of their hike.

I will ask that you pray for Marty. He is just now getting over being sick from our water. He was sick for 2 weeks. He is feeling a lot better, but he really doesn't want to get sick while they are out. Thank you!

This gives you an idea on where they are going. Point A is Ilulissat and point B is Oqaatsut.
